Phoenix Burton Barr Central Library

Hold.the.phone.

Phoenix has set the bar high. While I’m yet early in my library list journey, I know that the Phoenix Burton Barr Central Library will retain a lofty spot in my list. It’s unique, it’s artsy, it’s packed with books and materials, it’s stunning, it’s an architecural beauty. As I was conversing about the library with the librarians staffing a resource desk and how impressive it is, they promptly provided the reason why. An architect focused on work of Frank Lloyd Wright (and another architect) designed it. Of course, wright’s house is nearby.

This library is really something you have to step into and experience. First there’s a hallway with wonderful quotes and a wall of posters announcing upcoming programs. This spills you into a lobby with an art gallery. Then, there’s the atrium with elevators whisking people up and down the five floors which are packed full of books, movies, reference materials, rare books, state history, college info, robust teen and childrens sections. This library has it all and more. There is a plethora of programs.
