Miles City

Of all my library visits so far, the Miles City, MT library is definitely one of my favorites. The Montana Room in particular is fantastic. What first captured me was the ambience of the room. You access the room via French doors. The room is spacious and each wall filled with shelves and books. Plus there are large windows providing much light – a hallmark of the Carnegie style. Two comfy chairs await. It’s so quiet. I’d say it’s so quiet you could hear a pin drop, but the carpet is so deep that you wouldn’t hear even that. I think I could spend hours in there, just relaxing and reading.

Many books in the Montana Room are about Montana history. Historical photos on the walls tell the story of times long past. It’s the West as it was long, long ago.

This is a Carnegie which has been modified and expanded. Architecture is evident in features. If you check out the homepage of their website, you can see an original photo of the library.

The children’s section is quite large and inviting. It’s packed with books and light. If you’re considering how to set up your kids section, take a look at this. There’s much light and a fun path to follow to access the room. I bet that kids love it! Nicely done, Miles City. Nicely done.

Another interesting thing about this library are the artistic elements. When I visited first back in ’24, there was a sandwich board outside with a nice rendering. Great idea! We just dropped by briefly this year, and picked up a Friends of the Library book on the way out. Couldn’t resist! There’s also an artistic grate around a tree outside the library. Plus all the historical photos. This place is worth a visit!
